Direct cash cattle trade activity is still quiet.  Bids have been slow to surface.  Asking prices are at $140 live in the South, while the North has been quiet.  Some business could develop yet today – but it is more than likely significant trade volume will be delayed until midweek or later. 

Boxed beef is mixed at midday on light demand for moderate offerings.  Choice is $1.75 lower at $266.94 and Select is $.04 higher at $245.28.  The Choice/Select spread is $21.65. 

At the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to last week steers are $5 to $8 higher and feeder heifers are steady to $4 higher.
