The hot and dry weather has Ohio farmers concerned about deteriorating crop conditions.  USDA’s state statistician Cheryl Turner says only 33% of the cropland has adequate precipitation, yet 49% is short and 17% very short on precipitation.

USDA reporters say both corn and soybeans are showing signs of stress with both crops deteriorating in overall condition.

Ninety-five percent of Ohio’s soybeans are blooming.  Corn has not advanced to the silking stage.  Eighty-two percent of the oats have headed.  Ninety-two percent of winter wheat is mature with 47% of it harvested for grain.
