During the next several days, a weak disturbance over the northern Gulf of Mexico may have an opportunity to further develop. Regardless of development, locally heavy showers should occur across the lower Southeast. Five-day rainfall totals could exceed 5 inches from southeastern Louisiana to western Florida. In contrast, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days across the Plains, Far West, mid-South, and southern Corn Belt. Late in the week, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across the upper Midwest, while the Southwestern monsoon circulation will become more firmly established.
