A cold front currently crossing the Midwest will drift southeastward, reaching the northern and middle Atlantic States late in the week.  Scattered to widespread thunderstorms in the vicinity of the front could result in 1- to 3-inch rainfall totals across the nation’s northeastern quadrant.  A second cold front will trail the first, moving across the north-central and northeastern U.S. during the weekend.  Meanwhile, a surge of moisture associated with the Southwestern monsoon circulation could lead to heavy showers and late-week flash flooding in the Four Corners States, the Great Basin, and the Intermountain West.
