There’s a light direct cash cattle trade underway to start the day. Live deals in Texas are at mostly $142, mostly steady with last week’s business. But likely not enough to establish a trend. The rest of cattle country remains quiet. Asking prices in the South are around $145 live, while nothing has surfaced out of the North. Look for more business to pick up as the week progresses.
Boxed beef is mixed at midday with light to moderate demand for fairly light offerings. Choice is $.44 lower at $264.08 and Select is $1.12 higher at $239.48. The Choice/Select spread is $24.60.
At the Callaway Livestock Auction in Missouri, compared to last week’s very light offering steer calves were fully steady to firm.
