Following back-to-back days of light to moderate business, direct cash cattle trade is off to a slow start today. Asking prices for cattle left on showlists are around $143 live in the South and $234 dressed in the North. At least a little more business is expected to take place before the end of the week. Deals in Kansas and Texas have been at mostly $142 live, generally steady with last week’s weighted averages. Dressed deals in Nebraska and Iowa have been at $232 to $233, about $1 to $2 below last week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska.
