Dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days in the Desert Southwest, Pacific Northwest, and a broad area from the southeastern Plains to the central and southern Appalachians and the middle Atlantic States. Meanwhile, spotty showers will occur across much of the northern and western U.S., with the heaviest rain (1 to 3 inches) expected in the upper Great Lakes region. Cooler air will continue to overspread the West, while late-season heat will persist into next week across the central and southern Plains.
