A new $6 million grant program will help strengthen meat and poultry processing capacity in Illinois.
Through the Meat & Poultry Supply Chain Capital Grant Program offered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, independently owned meat processing companies in the state can receive funding to construct a new facility, or modernize and expand existing facilities or equipment.
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the consumer price index for meats increased by 23 percent from March 2020 to August 2022.
