There’s a light direct cash cattle trade underway. Live deals in the South are at $145, about $1 higher than last week’s weighted averages. The North remains quiet, but bids have surfaced at $148 live. Asking prices are around $146-plus live in the South and $232-plus dressed in the North. Look for more business to pick up as the day progresses.
Boxed beef is mixed at midday on light to moderate demand for heavier offerings. Choice is $.42 lower at $246.24 and Select is $.56 higher at $214.82. The Choice/Select spread is $31.42.
At the Hub City Livestock Auction in South Dakota, compared to last week the best test was on yearling steers 850 to 900 pounds and 950 to 1000 pounds, which were $2 to $4 lower.
