Subtropical Storm Nicole, currently centered more than 500 miles east of the northwestern Bahamas, will drift generally westward over the next several days.  Hazards facing the southern Atlantic Coast later this week may include heavy showers, high winds, coastal flooding, rough surf, and beach erosion.  In addition, Nicole may strengthen and could become a hurricane while approaching the east coast of Florida.  Meanwhile, a sprawling low-pressure system near the northern Pacific Coast will drift inland by mid-week and should cross the central Plains on Thursday.
