Much of the country will continue to experience cold but tranquil weather for the remainder of the week.  However, a storm system crossing the South will result in locally heavy rain across the central Gulf Coast States before spreading into the East during Tuesday.  Light precipitation—a mix of rain and snow—will affect the Midwest, although significant snow accumulations may occur around mid-week in northern New England and downwind of the Great Lakes.  Late in the week, cold, dry weather will return across much of the country.
