Options for certified livestock manager training, required under the Illinois Livestock Management Facilities Act, have been announced.
Brad Beaver, Chief for the Bureau of Environmental Programs with the Illinois Department of Agriculture tells Brownfield any facility over 300 animal units must have at least one employee certified.
“This is for the person that is most familiar with the manure management and handles all of the nutrient management applications at the facility.”
He says 300 animal units is equivalent to 750 finishing hogs, 214 milking dairy cows or 300 beef cattle.
