It’s another quiet start for direct cash cattle trade activity.  Bids have yet to surface.  Asking prices have been reported at $158 to $159 live in the South, while the North hasn’t been established yet.  It’s likely significant trade volume will be delayed until midweek or later. 

Boxed beef is lower at midday on light demand for moderate offerings.  Choice is $.96 lower at $285.18 and Select is $.50 lower at $259.10.  The Choice/Select spread is $26.08. 

At the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $6 higher.
