There’s another round of light direct cash cattle trade that’s been reported. Live deals in the South are at $155, fully steady with Thursday’s business and $1 lower than the prior week’s weighted averages. The North remains relatively quiet, but bids are at $248 dressed. Asking prices are at $156 to $158 live in the South and $249-plus dressed in the North. Look for additional trade to develop over the balance of the day.
Boxed beef was firm to higher at midday on solid demand for moderate offerings. Choice is $.19 higher at $271.70 and Select is $1.47 higher at $257.16. The Choice/Select spread is $14.54.
At the Mitchell Livestock Auction in South Dakota, feeder steers 600 to 850 pounds were $1 to $4 lower, however, steers 700 to 750 pounds were $4 higher.
