There’s a light direct cash cattle trade underway already this week. Live deals have been reported in the South at $172, $1 lower than the previous week’s weighted averages. The rest of cattle country is quiet. Asking prices in the South are $175 live, while asking prices have not surfaced in the North. Look for more business to develop over the balance of the week.
Boxed beef is mixed at midday on light to moderate demand for light offerings. Choice is $1.20 lower at $308.82 and Select is $1.77 higher at $292.77. The Choice/Select spread is $16.05.
At the Callaway Livestock Center, steer calves 400 to 600 pounds were fully steady to firm with the previous week’s active market.
