Direct cash cattle business is off to its typically quiet start.  Buyers and sellers are busy taking inventory and bids and asking prices have yet to be established.  It’s likely significant trade volume will be delayed until midweek or later.  Last week, Southern live deals were marked at $174 to $182, mostly $180, $2 lower than the prior week’s weighted averages.  Northern dressed business had a full range of $280 to $292, mostly $290, $6 below the previous week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska.
