Another quiet start for direct cash cattle business.  Bids have yet to surface.  Asking prices are around $180 to $182 live in the South, but have yet to be revealed in the North.  Significant trade volume will likely hold out until sometime Wednesday or later. 

Boxed beef is lower at midday – on light demand for moderate offerings.  Choice is $1.18 lower at $312.61 and Select is $2.09 lower at $280.24.  The Choice/Select spread is $32.37. 

At the Callaway Livestock Center in Missouri, there was a very large offering of mostly calves weighing 450 to 650 pounds.
