During the remainder of the week, a pair of disturbances should produce widespread showers and thunderstorms from the central Plains into the Ohio Valley and Northeast, with 5-day rainfall totals reaching 1 to 3 inches or more. However, areas to the north and south of the main area of rain—including the far upper Midwest and the Deep South, will receive only scattered showers. In fact, completely dry weather will prevail in much of Texas and the western U.S., although the establishment of the Southwestern monsoon circulation should result in scattered thundershowers in Arizona and New Mexico.
