A frontal boundary draped across the central Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley will remain a focus for heavy showers and locally severe thunderstorms, with 5-day rainfall totals expected to reach 1 to 3 inches or more. Locally heavy showers will also return across the eastern U.S., where similar totals may occur. Meanwhile, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days in the south-central U.S., the Far West, and from the northern Plains into the upper Midwest.
