Researchers with the University of Missouri have identified a case of longhorn ticks in Boone County.

Kathy Simmons, chief veterinarian with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says the tick indicates a looming problem for cattle health in the US. “These ticks are very small. They are probably the size of sesame seed, but they are aggressive biters.  They can get on a small animal by the thousands and exsanguinate it. They can also carry many diseases.
