Steady rainfall helped improve corn and soybean conditions last week in Illinois.
Randolph County farmer Rich Guebert, who also serves as president of Illinois Farm Bureau, tells Brownfield they’ve received timely rains since early July, which boosted conditions following the June drought.
“I think we’re going to have a good corn crop,” he said. “The beans are really coming on strong. They are blooming like crazy and setting pods. We’ve also got our fungicide on.”
The USDA says 64% of the state’s corn crop is in good to excellent shape with 71% of the crop in the dough stage and 20% dented.
