Extreme heat currently affecting the Northwest and Deep South will expand. Late in the week, triple-digit (100degree) heat will return across portions of the northern and central Plains. As the nation’s mid-section turns hotter, limited, late-week heat relief will occur in the West. Meanwhile, significant rainfall will be scarce during the next 5 days. Most of the rain will fall early in the week in conjunction with a low-pressure system currently traversing the upper Midwest.
