It’s a very quiet start again for direct cash cattle business. Asking prices for cattle left on showlists are around $180-plus in the South and $296 dressed in the North. At least a little more business should take place over the balance of the week. There was a light to moderate trade reported on Thursday. Deals in the South were at $179, about $1 lower than the previous week’s weighted averages. A handful of dressed deals in the North were at $295 to $298 and $187 to $188 live, about steady with the prior week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska.
