An agricultural meteorologist says this week’s hot weather will affect crops and livestock across the Corn Belt and Delta.

Drew Lerner with World Weather Incorporated says the heat will help corn reach maturity, but it could be stressful for the soybeans.

“For some of the areas that don’t have a lot of moisture, the topsoil will firm quickly and we’ll probably see a rise in crop moisture stress taking place. But because it’s just 4 more days, stress and impact could be low.”

He says livestock are stressed from the heat, too.
