The USDA says extreme heat and persistent dryness caused crop conditions to decline last week in Iowa.
Corn condition declined six percentage points to 54% good to excellent. Ninety-six percent of the crop is in or beyond the dough stage, 11 days ahead of the five-year average, and six percent has reached maturity.
The state’s soybean crop also declined six percentage points on the week to 53% good to excellent. Ninety-seven percent of the crop is setting pods, one week ahead of last year, and reports of soybeans dropping leaves were received by USDA.
