Idalia will continue to strengthen Tuesday and Tuesday night, possibly becoming a major (Category 3 or higher) hurricane before reaching the Gulf Coast of Florida on Wednesday. Expected impacts in the southern Atlantic States include 4 to 8 inches of rain, with isolated amounts near 12 inches, and hurricane-force winds (74 mph or greater). Additionally, an 8- to 12-foot storm surge may occur along and just to the right of where Idalia’s eye crosses the coastline.
