Some members of Congress say a bill that would block California’s Proposition 12 should be included in the 2023 Farm Bill.

The Ending Agriculture Trade Suppression (EATS) Act has faced some bipartisan pushback in the House and Senate the last few weeks, and U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley tells Brownfield, “I don’t know their opposition, but I assume animal rights people have great influence,” he said. “They want these requirements because they are against animal agriculture.”

Proposition 12 bans the sale of pork, veal, and eggs in California from animals anywhere in the country whose confinement does not meet minimum space requirements.
