Showers associated with a cold front will march eastward from the eastern and southern Plains into the Midwest. Cooler air trailing the front will bring an end to record-setting warmth that has been affecting much of the nation’s mid-section. Around mid-week, briefly heavy rain will fall from the southeastern Plains into the mid-South, where event totals could reach 2 to 4 inches or more. Most other areas across the central and eastern U.S. will receive only fleeting showers, although late-week rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches from the lower Great Lakes region into New England.
