There was less natural cheese and butter in cold storage in September than August, but more than a year ago.
USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service says the cheese stocks fell 2% from August to 1.47 billion pounds.
American style cheese totaled 850-million pounds, down nearly two-million pounds from August but seven-million more pounds than what was in storage a year ago. Swiss cheese stocks are at 22.3-million pounds, about 200-thousand pounds less than August but around 250-thousand pounds more than 2022.
Butter in storage totaled just over 275-million pounds in September, more than 16-thousand less than August but nearly eight thousand more pounds than a year ago.
