A market analyst suggests there’s a lot to consider when storing grain.

Naomi Blohm with Total Farm Marketing reminds farmers planning to hold onto corn harvested this fall that storage costs can add up.

“In terms of if you have interest payments, if you are dealing with higher costs of inputs in general.”

She tells Brownfield growers should be aware of seasonal trends.

“What happens a lot of times seasonally, and I was just looking at the seasonal chart for December corn futures and July corn futures (and) there’s a big seasonal pullback lower for prices throughout the month of November and into the first week of December.”

Blohm says she understands the reasoning behind storing the bulk of this year’s crop with a two-billion-bushel carryout weighing heavily on corn prices.
