Food waste is a huge problem in the United States.  In fact, nearly 40% of all food in America is tossed in the garbage. 

Here are a few more details. Each year, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted.  According to Feeding America, that is enough food for 130 billion meals and results in more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year. 

Anne-Marie Roerink with 210 Analytics a market research firm says there is a greater effort to reduce waste in both the supply chain and by consumers.
