The first half of the week will feature generally tranquil weather, although cold conditions in the Midwest and Northeast will contrast with the return of near- or above-normal temperatures in much of the South and West.  Additionally, snow squalls downwind of the Great Lakes will likely lead to disruptive snow accumulations in climatologically favored areas.  During the mid- to late-week period, cold air will return across the western and central U.S., as a storm system develops over the south-central U.S.
