The world’s first airline flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel was recently completed by Virgin Atlantic and a leader with Growth Energy says there’s more work to be done to push the market further.
“It’s absolutely an important milestone for one plane to be running on SAF,” said Joe Kakesh, Growth Energy’s General Counsel.
Kakesh tells Brownfield SAF can play a significant role in decarbonizing long haul aviation, but, “In order for this to be a sustainable, sustainable aviation fuel industry, the government’s got to make sure that the incentives are lined up in place and that folks are eligible for the right source of tax incentives and credits to continue to develop and do their good work in innovation that they’ve already done to date.”
Sustainable Aviation Fuel can deliver CO2 lifecycle emissions savings of up to 70%, the airline said.
