A storm system departing the nation’s mid-section will begin to re-form later Friday over the Gulf of Mexico.
Following a period of intensification, the system will drift northeastward, reaching the coastal Carolinas early Sunday and New England on Monday.
Storm-total rainfall could reach 2 to 4 inches or more in the Atlantic Coast States, with flooding possible across parts of the lower Southeast. Meanwhile, the Midwest will receive mostly light rain, or rain changing to snow.
