A weed management specialist with University of Missouri Extension says a new weed has been found in Missouri pastures that might be difficult to control.

Kevin Bradley tells Brownfield there have been reports of knotroot foxtail, a perennial weed.

“My guess is we’ve missed it for a few years. It looks like yellow foxtail and gets its name from roots that are in knots,” he says. “I’m concerned if we want to do something about yellow foxtail in a pasture and we go out and spray for it with knotroot foxtail present that we don’t get any control.”

He says the weed might have been transported to the state in hay during the drought.
