Mild, tranquil weather will prevail from the Plains eastward during the next several days, with record-setting high temperatures continuing in parts of the north-central U.S. In the West, however, a potent storm system will arrive along the northern Pacific Coast on Wednesday, bearing rain, snow, and high winds. By late Wednesday into Thursday, briefly heavy showers and gusty winds will rapidly shift southward through California. Late in the week, unsettled weather will shift inland, with rain and snow showers reaching as far east as the Rockies.
