Now that President Biden has signed the stopgap bill into law, a U.S. Representative from Iowa says lawmakers need to prioritize the farm bill.

“We sent a letter to Speaker Johnson urging him to move forward and work on a new farm bill,” Republican Ashley Hinson said.

Hinson says she’s optimistic a bipartisan farm bill can get done this year. “I’m hopeful,” she said. “I continue my conversations with Chairman Thompson about a robust farm bill that we can continue to work on and passed out of the House on a bipartisan basis.”

She says commodity programs need to be strengthened and any cuts to federal crop insurance would hurt the industry.
