High pressure centered over the nation’s mid-section will reach the central Gulf Coast States by Tuesday, leading to another night of unusually cold weather across the South.  Freezes are expected early Tuesday as far south as parts of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.  The cold snap, following the nation’s third-warmest February on record, could threaten Southern specialty crops, including blooming fruits, as well as winter grains, ornamentals, and nursery crops.  By Wednesday morning, however, lingering scattered frost in the South should be largely limited to Alabama and the southern Atlantic States, excluding Florida.
