A powerful storm system currently crossing the Mississippi Valley will drift northeastward, reaching the upper Great Lakes region late Tuesday. Subsequently, the storm will move northward and weaken. For the remainder of Tuesday, weather hazards across the central U.S. will include blizzard conditions across portions of the northern and central Plains; an elevated wildfire threat in western and southern Texas; and possibly severe thunderstorms shifting eastward into the Mississippi Valley. By mid-week, conditions will improve in the central U.S., while rain will spread into the East.
