A second commercial poultry flock this year has tested positive for Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says the virus has been detected at a facility in Newaygo County.  It’s the first case in the county since the virus was first reported in the state in 2022 and the state’s seventh outbreak in commercial poultry. 

State veterinarian Dr. Nora Wineland says keeping wild birds away from farms is essential to limit the impact of the virus as spring migration continues.
