Several programs have been developed in recent years to help increase food access in areas in need.

Illinois, for example, recently launched its New Stores in Food Deserts grant program.  Jason Horwitz with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity says this is part of the $20 million Illinois Grocery Store Initiative.
