Corn farmers dealing with drought are encouraged to take crop diseases like tar spot seriously.
Alice Harris with BASF says because most plant pathogens thrive in wet conditions, growers in dry areas might be tempted to pass on a preventative fungicide.
“With weather, we don’t know what’s going to happen year over year. So the best plan is to just have a plan because we don’t know if tar spot is going to come in early or later, and just having that fungicide plan and being able to adjust is going to be the best thing that you can do.”
She tells Brownfield it does not take much moisture to activate tar spot.
