Officials continue to dig into dueling farm bill frameworks.

Illinois Congresswoman, and House Ag Committee member, Nikki Budzinski says the House framework proposes a drastic cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), “If we stay static in our funding for the Thrifty Food Plan and don’t allow that adjustment to happen over the course of these five years, we estimate it could be upwards of $25 billion cut.”

She says the cuts to the Thrifty Food Plan are not present in the Senate majority’s proposal, “And in there was robust funding for the nutrition program, an expansion in some ways of SNAP to include more underserved constituencies, which is so critically important.”
