An extension weed specialist says farmers are struggling to control weeds post-emergence with constant rains keeping sprayers out of the field.

Kevin Bradley with University of Missouri Extension says he’s most concerned about the tall weeds in corn fields.

“They are already causing some yield loss,” says Bradley. “Always, if you see weeds in-between the rows, they have interactions with the light. The reflection off the weeds onto the corn makes the corn do weird things and start to slow down.”

He says the way farmers chose to manage weeds this spring in Missouri has made a difference.
