Wednesday, thunderstorms will become more active along a storm system’s trailing cold front, from the Ohio Valley to the southeastern Plains. With the bulk of this week’s rain falling through Wednesday, 5-day totals could reach 2 to 4 inches or more in parts mid-South and upper Midwest. In contrast, hot, dry weather will dominate the Deep South, from southern and coastal Texas to the southern Atlantic Coast. Hot, dry weather will also stretch from California to the southern High Plains, while frequent showers— including some high-elevation snow—will dot the Northwest.
