Egg production declined during April 2024.
The USDA says 8.935 billion eggs were produced, 1% under April 2023 as a dip in the number of layers was partially canceled out by better efficiency.
57.7 million egg-type chicks were hatched during April, a year-to-year increase of 4% and while the number of eggs in incubation at the start of the month fell 2%, placements into future hatchery supply flocks grew 6%.
834 million broiler type chicks were hatched, up 2%, with the number of eggs in incubation also up 2%, and placements 1% higher.
