A farmer in east central South Dakota says rains continue to delay soybean planting.

Scott VanderWal from Brookings County says farmers in the Northern Plains have a limited window to plant a crop and it’s challenging.

“There are parts of the state, by Watertown and even in the southeast part of the state, where they had more rain. A few weeks ago, some farmers hadn’t hardly gotten the crop planted. That’s frustrating at a time when crop prices are at a breakeven or a little lower even.”

He says some farmers have decided to take prevent plant for their corn, but VanderWal says that’s not the case for his farm.
