A Michigan wheat grower says he expects to start one of his earliest harvests in the coming weeks.

Nick Suwyn tells Brownfield he was able to plant early last fall and the crop is on pace to harvest the first week of July.

“It looks beautiful this year,” he shares. “We continue to get rain, the last week or two has been a little dry, we started irrigation on some wheat.”

Suwyn was last year’s overall Michigan Wheat Program Yield Contest winner with 171.1 bushels per acre on irrigated soft red winter wheat in Barry County.
