A crop insurance specialist with Farm Credit Illinois (FCI) says farmers trying to finish corn planting have entered the late-planting window.

Jack Young, vice president of crop insurance at FCI’s Decatur office, tells Brownfield…

“You can still plant corn after June 5th, but then each day that we get into that late period, it does reduce your coverage 1% a day.”  He says, “So your revenue coverage and your yield coverage is going to go down 1% a day.”

He says the late-planting window runs for 20 days, but farmers can also explore a prevent plant claim.
