For much of the country, significant rainfall will be scarce over the next 5 days, with completely dry weather expected across the interior Southeast, extending as far north as the Ohio River. Mostly dry weather will also prevail west of the Rockies. Generally light to moderately heavy showers and thunderstorms will occur in other areas, including the Plains, Midwest, and Northeast. Farther south, however, excessively heavy rain may develop across Florida’s peninsula, with 5-day totals possibly reaching 4 to 12 inches or more.
